But as the competition for truck sales heats up, manufacturers were looking for new ways to attract buyer attention. Now, if you’re Ford, maker of the world’s most popular pickup, the F150, you look back at your own history—not your truck history—your muscle car history. And you then create a hot-rod cargo hauler called the Lightning. Take Ford's latest F-150 truck in shortbed, flareside form, add in a healthy mix of SVT philosophy and components, and Lightning will strike! Unlike the first Lightning of 1993, which was a beefier version of Ford’s standard pickup truck, the new Lightning is a pure, purpose-built muscle truck. And it looks the part! The super-deep front fascia, with its round driving lights, reminds us of a NASCAR race truck, as do the ground-hugging rocker sill extensions, which emphasize its reduced ride height. It’s a half-inch lower in the front, and a full 2-inches lower in the rear. More exterior enhancements are limited to a special front air dam with twin driving lights, a black grille, custom rocker panels, the 18-inch wheels, and twin ceramic exhaust pipes. The standard cab holds a radically non-standard interior featuring black-on-white SVT instrumentation (complete with boost gauge) and black leather and gray suede seats. The interior items are tasteful and low-key. This one does not have the original radio; it was replaced with a Kenwood KDC-135 AM/FM/CD player. The Lightning is powered by SVT’s most brutal truck motor ever! Ford’s 5.4-liter Triton V8 that’s been pumped up and supercharged, to put out a massive 360 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. Stopping muscle is provided by an F-250 master cylinder, huge four-wheel discs, and a three-channel ABS system. Our best stop from 60 mph took just 131 feet. That's way short for a pickup. In 2015 the consignor placed a new F150 5.4L V8 engine and supercharger (we have all documentation that will come with the truck. Engine only has about 1200 miles since it was completed).
